Derek Jarman's finest work, a punk era classic.

probably the best British film made in the 70's, paints a picture of Britain that only the underclass ever see

A punk postcard from 1977, a lot of this film has the feel of a quaint period piece, and quite juvenile in places, basically a punk sequel to Rock Follies. The soundtrack is great and there is a curio factor in seeing Jordan, Jayne County and pre-pop versions of Adam Ant and Toyah larking about a post-nuclear, pre-Thatcher Thames London. If that's not your bag it's a bit of a rock and roll swindle.

Anyone interested in British punk should watch this. Jubilee features some of the leader figures of British Punk including Adam Ant, Jordan, Little Nell, Toyah Wilcox, Wayne County, Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Slits. Bizarre, violent and weird Jubilee takes Queen Elizabeth 1st and transports her to 1978 Britain where we meet all the strange characters of the scene. Defiantly not one for everyone, you'll ethier love it or hate it, but if you are interested in Punk or obscure art movies then you have to see this.

I like the strange emptiness of Derek Jarman's movies. It works quite well with Jubilee because it's a post-apocalyptic dystopia we're getting here. It's also an interesting indictment of anarchy and Thatcherism at the same time. Rocky Horror fans will enjoy the appearances of Richard O'Brien and Nell Campbell.
