Baroness Teri von Horhenfels deals with the tedium of her aristocratic Vienna life with a long line of lovers. Her rich husband, Franz, seems oblivious. As she's just about to end her latest affair, the baroness gets a much-needed dose of adrenaline when she becomes the target of a charismatic thief. After staging a daring robbery, he makes off with not only the baroness's ring but also her heart.

A simple little film that moves fast & has some good little twists & turns. A solid early 1930's from Warner Bros. The story of charismatic Jewel Thief pulling off an incredible heist at Vienna's most renown Jewellery Store. Some of the acting is irritable but at screen length of 68 mins it packs a nice tight story. The are some extraordinary pieces of jewellery on screen that are shot to perfection in crisp B&W...

Pre-code film about a debonair Jewel Robber (Powell of course) who robs jewelry stores and calms everyone down by giving them his special ciggerettes (Tickets to you Tim) and getting them high. Powell charms the pants off a Baroness and they fall in love. Not the best of Powell's films, but he so fucking charming and enjoyable to watch on screen it a must see if you are a Powell fan(Keith). The dope smoking is also enjoyable and Powell and Francis have a great repoir.

Totally not as good as Trouble in Paradise, but more pre-Code, if you know what I mean: bubble baths, backless outfits, "cigarette" smoking, extramarital affairs, and charming gentlemen robbers. And Kay Francis! And William Powell! If that means something to you, this is a must-see.
