Humboldt County (2008)

Peter is a medical student about to graduate and begin his residency. When his professor fails him, he winds up in bed with an actress and singer named Bogart rolling through Los Angeles. He accompanies her to the redwoods of northern California, where he encounters her eccentric family of pot farmers. But when Bogart runs away without a word, Peter is thrust into the picturesque and bizarre world.

It's a movie about a guy who tightly-wound and learns to hang loose. What do you expect? A touching ending that comes out of nowhere though.

[font=Arial Black]The movie Humboldt County is not bad. It is watchable as Peter learns there is more to life then going to school. His journey through this county gives him the courage to life his on life instead of becoming what his father wants him to be. It is a rite of passage for Peter.[/font]

Very well done. Similiar to Garden State, except not sophomoric in its execution. Goes beyond coming-of-age. Frances Conroy's monologue is worth the entire flick.

this movie is definitely a sleeper. took a bit to get me interested, but i thought it was a very compelling dramedy. the character of peter, at the beginning of the film, is completely withdrawn and mousy, but by the end kind of comes out of his shell, and develops into the person he was destined to be. punctuated by fine performances by brad dourif, frances conroy and chris messina, this film is almost inspirational in it message that through the haze, we may be able to see our lives and impact on each other and the earth much more clearly. also check out the beautiful poster.

This was a very likable character study film. Nice to see the "small film" with someone so well known as Peter Bogdanovich gracing it as an actor with a pretty small role. We were amused to find at the end of the film that two actors with smaller roles in the file were actually the directors. I especially liked the lead actor who played Peter and I was surprised to learn it was his first feature film.
