WOW! probably the best straight to netflix movie i've seen. dark. mysterious. SUSPENSEFUL. beautiful alaskan setting. holds ones attention and interest all the way through to the end. thoroughly recommend this one especially if you're a fan of ambiguous endings like me. :)

While Hold the Dark is ambitious, as all Saulnier films are, it's also confusing to watchers - and confused in its purpose.

The ending was weak. But the atmosphere was excellent, actors convincing. Nice to see indigenous people taken seriously and jeffrey wright at the center.

Pay attention or you'll miss key clues and wonder wtf was going on when the credits roll. A second watch may be required if you make a cuppa mid way through. Far more subtle than the book - the motivations are not easily apparent. The truth is hidden in the raw, untamed Alaskan wilderness. Like a Magic Eye image, if you look long and hard enough it all becomes clear. Beautiful, haunting, savage.

It's confusing but it's well made and an intriguing film.
