The best of Kurosawa's modern setting films.

This is one of those perfect movies that is one amazing sequence after another, and I think the handover on the train is the best sequence of all time. As a crime story, this is right up there with Dostoyevsky.

Shoes. Kidnapping. Noir. Kurosawa. High and Low is an absolutely stunning crime film, executed perfectly. Fantastic, powerful, and gripping- why this film isn't ranked up with Seven Samurai and Rashomon is beyond me.

One of the early great ransom stories. Kurosawa's brilliant attempt at a crime drama that pays off. Its a man who risks all he has to get ahead in life when an unforeseen plot to kidnap his son goes awry and they instead kidnap his worker's son! He's caught in the dilemma of going the step forward in life at the cost of a boy, or to loose it all and save him.
