Harvard's star basketball player, Alan (Adrian Grenier), is pushing his luck. He must hide one girlfriend, Cindy (Sarah Michelle Gellar), the daughter of a mob boss, from his other girlfriend, Chesney (Joey Lauren Adams), his promiscuous Philosophy professor. Alan's escapades finally catch up with him when his family faces dire financial difficulty. To remedy the situation, Alan asks Cindy to approach her mobster father for a loan. He offers the money on one condition: throw the next game. While Alan contemplates the idea, he must juggle two girlfriends, deal with the mob, and face the FBI. also stars Rebecca Gayheart, Eric Stoltz, Ray Allen, Michael Aparo, Adam Bloch and Gianni Russo. directed by James Toback.

It is always a delight to watch the yuong Gellar at work, but even I would admit her films to date have by and large been likened to my excrement after a couple of gallons of protein shake. So I didnt go into this with high expectations. But it was watchable, in a standard American College students story kind of way.

Not the best movie i have seen S.M.Gellar in but she does a good job, i like the twisted plots and the ending suits the rest of the movie.

There's an interesting scene when Adrian Grenier is on drugs and the camera shows the world around him in an odd distorted view. Cool camera work.

As with most of Toback's films, there are Big Ideas being bandied about that never quite coalesce, a failing that, this time at least, mirrors his hero's own hyped-out search for meaning.
