Orphan Pip discovers through lawyer Mr. Jaggers that a mysterious benefactor wishes to ensure that he becomes a gentleman. A very decent film adaptation of my favorite Dickens novel. Ralph Fiennes was a standout, however the adult Pip was a bit too stupid for my taste. The death of Miss Havisham was far more graphic and less frightening than any I've seen yet. For anyone attempting their first film of this great story, please try the superb 1946 version.

I wasn't expecting much from another retelling of Dickens classic story, but I was greatly surprised. Absolutely lavish from start to finish it was like watching a gorgeous painting unfold on the big screen. A must-see! Loved this!

A truely magnificent film. I had Great Expectations of this movie. I was most certainly not disapointed. It was just so captivating and brilliant and there was just this air to it that only great movies have- and it is very rare. The first film I think has ever deserved a five-star rating from me, how close it is to the novel however, I have yet to find out. Jeremy Irvine has most certainly grown in skill since his debut in War Horse.

Good try to adopt the tale of Charles Dickens, but it cannot surround it nor add to it as expected. Visually it is so rich and relaxant with such a great costumes, locations, editing, but what is to be said is that presence of Helena Bonham Carter is the best thing in it to give the exotic spirit, as Ralph Fiennes' to give the emotions. This is what really makes the movie by their efficiency and experience which is not clear in the young generation actors.

I thought this was a wonderful movie and compared to others in the past it seems to be more like the book and less of a blow up version of it , I say watch this , it will make your heart soar at the very notion of unconditional love and hope.
