Gothic (1987)

Living on an estate on the shores of Lake Geneva, Lord Byron is visited by Percy and Mary Shelley. Together with Byron's lover Claire Clairmont, and aided by hallucinogenic substances, they devise an evening of ghoulish tales. However, when confronted by horrors, ostensibly of their own creation, it becomes difficult to tell apparition from reality.

So bad its bad. So badly bad its actually kind of good. This is one of those Julian Sands movies - Like Warlock or Boxing Helena - that I both hate and love at the same time. Like a horrible car crash involving one of those tiny clown cars you ken?

Ã?a rime Ã quoi tout ca? Je cherche encore l'intÃ©rÃªt de cette histoire. Ã?a part un peu dans tous les sens et j'ai eu beaucoup de mal Ã tenir jusqu'au bout. Je ne vous le conseille pas, donc!

Typically Ken Russell, visually interesting, emotionally aloof and hopelessly pretentious. Nicely produced, good art direction and costume design, the cinematography is expressive. I have never been a fan of the director and has his usual pointless and bizarre touches, which I find a turn-off, as well as the characters that spark no involvement in the story whatsoever. It dragged on endlessly for me. Released in 1986, not 2002 as stated here.

This was one trippy movie!!! At first, I didnt understand it, but after I realized that they were all high and hallucinating, everything made sense...kind of. Gabriel Byrne creeped the pants off me and well...Julian Sands was totally sexy and vulnerable as Shelley. What I want to know is if this was an actual "legend based on a true story" b/c apparently it inspired Frankenstein.
