Some good (sorry!) moments, and an interesting theme, but after a while the only reaction can be "Duh!"

Good, but not great. I was intrigued by the premise of a good man in a bad place. Viggo Mortensen is always watchable, although the tone seems to switch schizophrenically from claustrophobia and ominous dread, to virtual slapstick when he's chasing around after his elderly mother. Jason Isaacs, Mark Strong and Steven Mackintosh are all good, but there are many themes that seem unexplored or unfulfilled, and the direction is haphazard.

Slow and subtle which may have hurt others opinions of this film given what movies have become. It tells the story it tells very well and is finely acted, in particular by Jason Isaacs who has fantastic intensity in his scenes that won me over on the film more than anything else.

The best movie about the time of the nazi regime I have ever seen!! After the film I was sitting in my seat unable to move, unable to speak unable to cry and full of gratitude for this wonderful film. Viggo Mortensen in his best role up to now!
