Very funny and beautiful to look at, despite the creepiness connected with the film's passage through the Nazi years in Czechoslovakia and the lead character's obtuseness concerning the horror outside his bubble. The Lazy Susan scene is unforgettable.

Refreshingly original, though I preferred the novel. Wonderful satire, but what would have been his character's anti-heroism under Communism now looks a bit dated.

An interesting, even intriguing two-hour feature about a young man craving to become a millionaire and when he finally achieves his goal, the communists send him to prison for fifteen years. That is the essential storyline of this movie - directed, acted and written in an entertaining and witty way ... you'll never know you sat in your chair for a couple of hours. Enjoy :)
