Galaxina (1980)

Galaxina is a lifelike, voluptuous android who is assigned to oversee the operations of an intergalactic Space Police cruiser captained by incompetent Cornelius Butt. When a mission requires the ship's crew to be placed in suspended animation for decades, Galaxina finds herself alone for many years, developing emotions and falling in love with the ship's pilot, Thor.

Pointless plot about a crew on a spaceship charting new territory in space with a female robot with feelings, played by Playmate Dorothy Stratten. The long search for the blue star crystal ends with an alien eating it.

It's not the best film ever made but back in the day there was no better hybrid of soft porn, sci-fi, and absurdist camp. Additionally, it's not that bad of a film, seriously. Stephen Macht was young and handsome, Dorothy Stratten was not a great actress but, my god, she was beautiful and, if I remember correctly, she had an unbelievable screen presence. I watched "Star 80" earlier tonight, and it reminded me how much I loved "Galaxina". Maybe we were just deprived of so many choices back in the late 70's, early 80's, but I truly love this film.

As spoofs go, it wasn't awful. Actually, in some ways, it excelled the prequels (kidding). If they had spent more time developing some of the things going on (or even if they tried it seriously) it would have been interesting. There were some things going on that were interesting. I actually laughed in some places. The big criticism was how underdeveloped it was.

To say that Galaxina fails at everything, is actually an understatement. This sci-fi spoof actually looks pretty good but it fails miserably at humor, references, acting, dialogues and dear lord what the fuck were they thinking with the pacing of this. NOTHING happens for literally 30 minutes. NOTHING. And when it does, you just want it to finnish and end your misery in the process. Hell, the titular character is not even the main characters and only utter two or three sentences on the whole movie. She's kinda hot though, as a playmate, she's actually fine and I can't say that for 90% of other Playboy bunnies. Yes, I ended up a review praising a Playmate for being of my liking, I really can't find many positive things in this, sorry.

With only a few good jokes (The Blue Star!) spread across a long 90 minute running time; Galaxina is a mostly unfunny film that sports a cast, who actually work very well together, whose only crime is following the script. Unless you REALLY like b-movie science fiction, skip it. Actually, this is silly to write anything about this because I'll bet not one of you have ever heard of this. What a waste of space this has become.
