But if you can't find happiness either on a beautiful but frequently lethal beach or a bustling but grim Berlin, where can you? Futuro Beach doesn't know, either.

An immensely likable movie, impeccably acted and wise about the nature of exile.

The amount of "stuff" that can be read out of Futuro Beach makes the film sound perhaps a bit cacophonous.

It feels more like a Frenchie (for its moody vibes & prologue+trio-chapters+epilogue structure) than a co-production of Germany + Brazil. Some parts are so vague during plot shifting (why Donato, the protagonist, left Brazil, for instance. Storyline claims he escapes from what happened in the incident but, which is rather questionable & unclear). Thorough in general, though.

Performances are great, soundtrack is catchy and I really thought it was an interesting way to film a story, focusing on scenes with few dialogues and most expressions from the actors. The script is very promissing too, about a man who leaves his family behind and goes to Berlin to stay with a man he met after a tragic accident at Praia do Futuro. On the other hand, this way of filming, which remined me a lot of Terrence Malick's "To The Wonder", bothered me a lot and it never connected me with the story. To be honest, this film left a huge empty space in my head because I couldn't understand very well what happended to the characters. In the end, I had nothing to reflect about. In other words, it's as if the script wasn't very well developed on screen. It's a shame.
