Futureworld (1976)

Two years after the Westworld tragedy in the Delos amusement park, the corporate owners have reopened the park following over $1 billion in safety and other improvements. For publicity purposes, reporters Chuck Browning and Tracy Ballard are invited to review the park. Just prior to arriving, however, Browning is given a clue by a dying man that something is amiss.

Sequel to Michael Crichton's Westworld. Several years after the Westworld disaster, two reporters investigate the new 'Futureworld' theme park after being tipped off that something is wrong. Yul Brynner reprises his role in a dream sequence, but other than that it's an entirely new cast. Fonda and Danner are ok, but it's really just a rehash of the original, with an added conspiracy to unravel. It is what it is, an average '70s sci/fi movie.

OK for a sequel. A different beast than Westworld, less action-oriented and more of a mystery, but unfortunately there isn't much substance.

Not as good as Westworld, but still a fun movie. And Blythe Danner is super cute, that's a plus.

Like with alot of sequels, it does suffer greatly from being a "Replica" of "Westworld" (Pun Intended). Group of people go to the Theme Park, which now has Futureworld, emphasis on Future, where West World being Past. Most of this isn't as good as Westworld though and does lull quite a bit. Worst of all is the "Dream Sequence" which must be the blandest 5 mins ever shot to film. The difference between this and the first one, is you know its all going to go horribly wrong, but this time so do the central characters. I think this film conspires to "Terminator" etc much more than the first one, in that the plot is more sinister, that the machines are taking over the world and not just the theme park. I liked the idea of cloning, and the detective nature to how Jarvis Cocker....I mean Peter Fonda goes about it. Also the ending is pretty good, in the not knowing who survives until the final scene. Its a decent underrated Sci-Fi movie that given the time it was made, pre stars wars, blade runner and terminator its a decent effort.
