Enjoyable enough while it lasts, but overall forgettable sci-fi.

This movie is probably one of Roger Corman's greatest commercial moments ever as a producer and director (although uncredited) since, for a change, he had some budget (2M$), he got his hands on a few celebrities (John Saxon, George Peppard, Robert Vaughn, Sybil Danning... and other actors who did not fade into obscurity thereafter), the special effects are surprisingly well-made, and the soundtrack was composed by James Horner (which, by the way, really sounds like his Star Trek : The Wrath of Khan score). However - HOWEVER - even with this kind of money and talent, everything feels cheap. It's more or less an astonishlingly unsubtle rip from Star Wars (for instance, the bad guy is named "Sador", the hero is even more whiny than Luke Skywalker, and there's "Coyboy", your average Han Solo), the special effects and soundrack were re-used in other movies produced by Roger Corman, and there are too many characters for such a thin storyline spread over 1h45'. Still interesting, though...

It may be crap, but I still watch it whenever it's on TV.

Roger Corman's MAGNIFICENT SEVEN in Space--A delightfully spirited and good-natured early 80's sci-fi action/adventure treat!!

I must have watched this film a hundred times in the 80's but man, has this dated badly....
