Worth tracking down iif you're a Hitchcock fan.

An exceptional brink-of-war suspense thriller by Hitchcock, which bookends nicely with his later Lifeboat (as well as the two short films he made in France with actors there: Bon Voyage and Aventure malgache). The short documentary included on the DVD from 2004, Personal History: Foreign Hitchcock, excellently showed that Selznick had rights to the best-seller for years, but that Hitch had the nature of it changed completely to more represent the then-current problems the Nazis were posing England. It also stated the marriage proposal was basically the same actually used by Hitchcock himself when he had proposed to the missus. The acting and set-pieces are wonderful, and the film deserves a lot more recognition in his oeuvre than it currently ascertains.

A creative blend of spy thriller and action movie that carries with it so many inconic film moments. There are many twists and turns in this plot (I got a little confused, but found my way), and in true Hitchcock-ian fashion, the final ten minutes will keep you glued to your seats. Amazing special effects. And the film takes a surprisingly inspirational tone with its patriotism during the war era.

Honestly this was going to be a 5 until that patriotic drivel at the end. But definitely worth watching.

Early Hitchcock thriller set in the wake of World War II. An american journalist travels to Europe to cover the political situation, and soon finds himself caught in a web of lies, espoinage and international intrigue. Good film!
