Jed prepares to interview French cineaste and self-appointed expert on the nature of love - Thierry Grimandi. The worldly and somewhat jaded Jed is dead-set on dismissing the auteur's musings as pompous and, well French, until his own relationship with Cheryl starts to fall apart and he is forced to re-evaluate the illusive subject. Soon everyone is talking about love: his relationship counsellor, drinking buddy Marcus and Marcus' girlfriend Sophie Beginnings, endings, tricks...could the French be on to something?

This is a rich, beautifully written exploration of romantic self-delusion. The playing - particularly Bonneville - is assured and the dialogue constantly fires off cracking one-liners.

The film is clever, funny and emotionally truthful and the parodies of Grimandi's films are deadly accurate.

this was a little heavy handed with it's message, but it was ok. the best part about it was one of the early songs that played in the background by "The Broken Family Band - Alone in the Makeout Room" I did actually laugh at a few scenes which is a rarity, but in the end I wasn't left with that feel good, a-ha, blah bee blah blah feeling that would've warranted a higher rating.
