There is about 5 minutes in the beginning of the movie where there is no dialogue - just Mark and Channing wrestling - it initially seems weird, but it sets the stage for what comes later. It shows just how much Mark [Channing Tatum] relies on his brother Dave [Mark Ruffalo] and depends on his direction and coaching. When things unravel at the end, you remember these first scenes and things become clearer for you. The acting here is amazing. Watching Channing and Mark work together is like watching a fine-tuned ballet. They trained for 6 months before shooting the movie and then would train every night after filming and it shows in many of the scenes. That said, this is a very sad movie; there is no happy ending here. I am looking forward to reading the book, which delves further into what truly happened at the Foxcatcher Estate and also is more detailed about John du Pont's [played amazingly by Steve Carrell. He is SERIOUSLY creepy in this movie. He was perfect casting] descent into madness.

The triumph of Foxcatcher is not in the subject but in its art. The clear-eyed compassion and moral intelligence of Miller’s film brings sense to the senseless, and finds the human pulse behind the tabloid shock. It’s not a movie to make you feel good, but, at moments, it reminds you what goodness is.

Carell is excellent in "Foxcatcher", creating tension and putting us in an uneasy place by his out-of-place timing, reactions and cadences. He's downright creepy! Ruffalo and Tatum also were very strong performers. Great cinematography and atmosphere make up for a slow script, which is really more character driven than event driven. "Foxcatcher" is a very well done film worth seeing.

Foxcatcher doesn't appear to be anything remarkable at-a-glance, but its technical prowess and stunning performances say otherwise, as they pertain to both the core story detail and the external portrayals thereof. It's a fairly straightforward, if not deliberate, story of insanity slow-brewing beneath a mountain of wealth and an unyielding passion, both of which mask, but cannot fully contain, the reality below. The film is strikingly beautiful in its simplicity and slow simmering approach. It ends quickly, a punctuation on a carefully constructed build-up to tragedy. Shaped by gorgeously knowledgeable and exacting direction, precise editing, and several incredibly detailed performances that rank amongst the finest of the decade thus far, Foxcatcher stands as one of the strongest films of 2014.

Good movie. I read about the story behind this and it is crazy. It just goes to show you that you can't judge a book by its cover and you never know when someone will just snap and go berserk and batshit crazy on you! ð~¬ð~¨ð~
