Faith of Our Fathers (2015)

With the Vietnam War raging in 1969, two young fathers report for duty. A man of great faith and a doubtful cynic. A quarter-century later, their sons, Wayne and John Paul (David A.R. White and Kevin Downes), meet as strangers. Guided by handwritten letters from their fathers from the battlefield, they embark on an unforgettable journey to The Wall-the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Along the way, they discover the devastation of war cannot break the love of a father for his son.

Faith of Our Fathers doesn't work, and not because of its Christian message. The main problems are the obvious script (every plot-twist can be seen coming from miles down the road), the bad acting, and the cheaply-done, unconvincing Vietnam flashbacks.

Not very well acted and not an original movie. Too many closeups made me wish I'd sat way in the back row. It was a wannabe tear jerker, but the unoriginality of the movie made me wanna yawn instead. Stephen Baldwin's character was probably the best thing about it. Does that tell you something...? This is one Christian movie I wish I'd waited until it came out on cable or Netflix to see.

Message about heroics and bravery comes too late in the movie to overcome the mess that preceded it.

It did seem a bit low budget but the message is very good. With so much of the movies coming out of Hollywood I still would pay for a righteous film vs the trash that is produced today.
