Dr Strangelove played serious. This is film is one of the most underated of all time and is scary now so god knows what it was like at the time.

Stunning film. Dark, gritty, tense. Even if you know the end, the film builds so strongly the suspense is intense. This film has style. You need to watch this film.

It's a little didactic at times, for example, Henry Fonda talking straight into the camera to explain exactly what's wrong with the world, but given the world climate in which it was produced, it's certainly necessary that its messages be so overt. Still, while I agree with its statements, Fail-Safe does beat you over the head with them sometimes. Technically, though, I think it's absolutely brilliant. I love the heavy reliance on bright lights and shadows, and the final minute of the movie is absolutely haunting beyond words.

One of the best anti war films that I have ever seen. Despite being very modestly budgeted it had a good storyline. Highly recommend it. Unlike a lot of modern films, which I think go on too long, it is just about the right length too.

I had always though this was just a knock-off of Dr. Strangelove but it is a really good film in its own right. The solution to the problem in the film seems a bit far-fetched but the tension and acting are first rate.
