it's a man's man's movie, a modern western from Walter Hill.

Childhood friends now at odds due to one being a Texas Ranger and the other a drug kingpin across the border in Mexico. Decent film turns into a bloodbath at the end. Not Walter Hill's best but all of his material is worth watching.

Walter Hill's 1987 film, EXTREME PREJUDICE is an interesting action film with Nick Nolte starring as a Texas Ranger, Powers Booth as his former best friend who is now a drug kingpin in Mexico, and Maria Conchito Alonso as the woman torn between the two men. What sets out to be a classic modern retelling of a classic Western plot (two men with similar backgrounds take different paths in life and wind up as polar opposites and enemies) gets confused when Michael Ironside and a team of elite U.S. Army commando-types show up in the small Texas town that the Ranger lives in and that the drug dealer launders his money in. So the plot becomes kind of confused at times, the focus shifts from the antagonistic relationship between Nolte and Booth and starts focussing on Ironside and his gung-ho team. But it is an enjoyable outing.

I love this movie just for how insanely 80s it is. The writing is so damn entertaining. I dont even know how to really describe it other than its Testosterone overload on how these guys talk. This is one of those movies I saw as a kid in the 80s and then I didnt see it again till like 2 years ago. seeing by how few reviews there are its one of those movies that was forgotten about. I forgot about it sadly. The action is so over the top its wonderful. The dialogue is so Toxic and ridicules I love it. The final shoot out has to be seen to be believed. I wish i could give an award to whoever wrote this. Its just ridicules fun and i wish we could get more movies like this.

Decent action film, well defined characters, it has a nice style to it, but it left me feeling kind of empty. The good pacing helps. Fine cast. Nick Nolte does particularly well. Typical of director Walter Hill.
