Extreme Prejudice (1987)

Lean, mean Texas Ranger Jack Benteen locks horns with a former friend, Cash Bailey, now a ruthless drug kingpin. Though they're on opposite sides of the law, they share a love interest in the sensual Sarita. When a crew of rogue soldiers descends upon the border town for an off-the-books mission, all roads lead to a bloody, to-the-death showdown, as loyalties shift and the lines between good and evil are blurred.

A movie that could only be made in the 80's one of the best casts ever and possibly the coolest gun fights I have ever seen in a movie ever. William Forsythe and Clancy Brown own in their roles as special op soldiers hired to rob a bank for the U.S. Goverment. Nick Nolte is the Texas Ranger who runs into and stumbles upon their plot. One of the greatest 80's action movies ever.

Walter Hill's Extreme Prejudice is as red-hot as a Saturday-night special, an ultra-violent action-adventure fantasy so macho that it verges on parody--on purpose. Sensational rather than serious, it is an exploitation picture but one with class: it has style, a point to make that happens to be highly topical and, thankfully, a dry, saving sense of humor.

Director Walter Hill directs the underrated modern western action film with a great cast.

This underrated film from master filmmaker Walter Hill deserves far more praise than it gets. First rate performances from its entire cast especially Nolte, Boothe and Ironside, elevate it above other films of its type. Hill's beautiful and majestic shots of Texas and Mexico are definitely one of the high points here. The excellently staged action sequences are above par and the ending is expertly handled as an obvious homage to Peckinpah's classic The Wild Bunch. As a huge and respectful fan of Hill's body of work I can say, without question, I consider Extreme Prejudice to be his masterpiece.
