El Bulli: Cooking in Progress (2011)

For six months of the year, renowned Spanish chef Ferran Adria closes his restaurant El Bulli -- repeatedly voted the world's best -- and works with his culinary team to prepare the menu for the next season. An elegant, detailed study of food as avant-garde art, EL BULLI: COOKING IN PROGRESS is a rare inside look at some of the world's most innovative and exciting cooking; as Adria himself puts it, "the more bewilderment, the better!

As it lingers over chefs chatting and organizing, it requires more patience than, say, an episode of "Top Chef." But I bet adventurous eaters will be intrigued.

When Adria is on camera, he most often is tasting something one of his lieutenants is putting in front of him and saying something like, "Less parmesan - more coffee." But that's all.

Boring. Got really tired of the scenes of Ferran eating.

I did not like this documentary. It was interesting to see the creative process of Adria and his team but the film is so dry and sterile that it does not make you want to have his food at all. I should be salivating when watching a food documentary!

As an advertisement for the restaurant, this works well, but the issues - the art of cuisine and cuisine as art - are not discussed very thoroughly.
