Arriving from all over the Eastern Bloc, the men who loiter around the Gare du Nord train station in Paris are scraping by however they can, forming gangs for support and protection, ever fearful of being caught by the police and deported. This is a tough, important film, and one that wields ambivalence like a cudgel.

Unsettling because of the harshness of the Eastern hustlers but I grew to empathize with their plight. I liked how the protagonist handled all the situations thrust upon him. The film develops slowly but if you stick with it you will be rewarded. The cinematography is fresh and interesting.
