Not my favorite film of 2011, nor one of my favorite horror films, but this is well done nonetheless. Pearce, Holmes, and young Madison carry the film nicely. Great musical score. The concept isn't that great or even remotely scary, but the film is well done.

This made-for-TV horror film is about as good as it gets for these kinds as far as old school ones come. It felt laughably bad at times but embrassed it's slight cheese so well that it works. I loved how everything was crafted here even though it is littered with many cliche's. It is however quite creepy at times, and then we do get comfortable with the film while still on the edge of our seat slightly. This is a horror classic for anyone who is with a group of friends. Either you'll love it, or have a good time laughing at how bad it is. As for me, I loved it. For fans of horror in general this is a must see before the incredicbly creepy looking remake comes out this summer.

Some of the knife-twisting later scenes in "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" feel almost campy, like winks at the audience or studious self-referentiality. None of this is quite enough to ruin a gripping, gruesome fable, which of course del Toro's fans and other genre buffs will rush out to see, but it does render the movie a minor muddle rather than a horror masterwork.

If the grand finale isn't as resonantly scary as the original's, maybe that's just because, try though we might, we're no longer impressionable kids.

i don't think i can really express in words just how much i love this(and how much it scared me as a child) those damn weekday afternoon t.v.matinees(people who were kids in the 70's know what i'm talking about)have to get a copy of this movie, vhs, dvd dosn't matter. a must see. this was susposed to be remade a couple years back(james wong) however someone must think its not a good idea(stupid!) if i had a chance to actucally make a film this would be the one i would do(no lie)anyways i hope someone does it until then check this rare, underated movie. very creepy. very good despite the early 70's production values , pacing and acting. i don't what else to say just watch this.
