New York photographer Ronit flies to London after learning about the death of her estranged father. Ronit is returning to the same Orthodox Jewish community that shunned her decades earlier for her childhood attraction to Esti, a female friend. Their fortuitous and happy reunion soon reignites their burning passion as the two women explore the boundaries of faith and sexuality.

The women are remarkable, unforgettable. But don’t overlook Nivola, an enigmatic figure as the rabbi and husband.

My favorite film of 2018. Perfectly executed. You feel the oppression, the longing. The acting is outstanding. Each scene reveals just enough. Here's what I thing Rachel McAdams does better than anyone else: you see her character and think "man, I want someone to love me like that." I can't wait to watch it again.

This is a powerful story of faith, longing, and sexual and personal freedom. The performances from the 3 leads are brilliant, especially McAdams', who will knock you on the floor with her portrayal of Esti's confusion, vulnerability, and strength. A moving story and for once, a movie with queer characters who don't die at some point in the story!
