The film continually improves as you grow more invested in its characters, but the *extremely* dated special effects and rampant racism are hard for me to get by in a modern context, even as a film major.

Essentially, for me, Cary Grant is the only reason to see this film. I'm not the war movie type. However, as a whole, the film wasn't bad. It really gave me a glimpse of what goes on 10,000 leagues under the sea;^). I really appreciated how it also showed the constant decisions the captain [Grant] has to make. In this role, Grant was more serious than he is some of his other roles, however, he still remains to be charming and funny at times.

Good action scenes and some good dialogues, but it's boring in part and not very easy to follow.
