Black Book (2006)

Israel, 1956: Jewish teacher Rachel Stein rather unexpectedly meets an old friend at the kibbutz. It brings back memories of her experiences in the Netherlands during the war, memories of betrayal. In September 1944, Rachel's hiding place is bombed by Allied troops; she makes contact with a resistance member and joins a group of Jews to be smuggled across the Biesbosch to the freed South Netherlands. Only Rachel escapes a massacre by patrol Germans, and is rescued by a resistance group under the leadership of Gerben Kuipers, whose son is captured trying to smuggle weapons. Kuipers asks Rachel to seduce SS-hauptsturmführer Ludwig Müntze, a mission that she will soon learn that the boat attack wasn't a coincidence.

A highly skillful, stylish and great paced spionage thriller that is both, always involving and suspenseful with just enough erotism and violence to make it fairly entertaining.

One of the best WW2 movies. If weren't for Katyn, I'd say the best one. This is not about WW2 too much, not full of cliches and bad Nazis fighting with good Allies. It's more a detective movie, a capture of real-life struggle, the story of help and betrayal. I won't write a single letter on script, just go to see it. It's certainly worth it.

An extraordinary movie with an amazing story plot that follows one woman's path for vengeance at any cost, including that of her own life. Great cast. Fantastic music! Definitely worthy.

Really spectacular and gripping and while the SOME NAZIS WERE JUST NORMAL PEOPLE thing could have been exploited to make it some kind of morality tale (like it was in "The Reader," which I thought was poorly done), Verhoven didn't play it up. It was about people. And spies. And it's really pretty much a masterpiece.
