Desierto (2015)

A group of Mexican emigrants attempts to cross the Mexican-US border. What begins as a hopeful journey becomes a harrowing, bloody and primal fight for survival when a deranged, rifle-toting vigilante and his loyal Belgian Malinois dog chase the group of unarmed men and women through the treacherous borderland. In the harsh, unforgiving desert terrain, the odds are stacked firmly against them as they discover there's nowhere to hide from the unrelenting, merciless killer.

Excellent acting and such a timely film with all the controversy and stared stirred toward immigrants now. I remember watching films about border crossings in the 80s when so many people from Central America and Mexico as well were escaping the wars/ violence in hopes of better lives here. I was totally absorbed in this film. Predictable some say...but isn't it so because we know the truth in such takes?? Recommend it!!

Great movie, cinematography was fantastic. Wonderful acting by the casting. I love that this movie is able to say so much with so little dialogue. However it does need more time with the characters to be able to relate more and get a more intimate experience, to care. the ending feels a little weak by not making a choice, it stop itself from going all the way or even sending a good message. it simply runs away from any real resolution

If you are familiar with film noir you will enjoy this movie. I was impressed by the quality, considering they had a budget of approximately 3,000,000. It definitely has a No Country For Old Men feel to it. I was born in Mexico and the Spanish which is spoken in the movie is fluid and accurate to the slang which is used in that region. It definitely didn't feel scripted when it came to delivering the Spanish lines.

Despite its somewhat minimalistic approach, Desierto is packed with action and palpable tension which doesn't ease up until the film's very end.
