A unique and well-crafted Western. Burl Ives proves once again how great a character actor he was, his performance here is first-rate.

magnificent western! especially the last half hour. guess i'm in the mood for these snow bound landscapes lately. pity those poor horses. robert ryan gets a chance to really shine here. burl ives is terrific as the outlaws' leader

A masterful Western from the great Andre De Toth. The stunning Winter photography has more in common with later Theo Angelopoulos films than with Westerns from the 50's. The staging and camera movements are all superb and the anti-violence message never seems heavy-handed. A masterpiece.

Very subdued as Westerns go, but it does stand-out from the hundreds of generic movies from this genre because of this style.
