Newman/Redford at their best in arguably the best western because of the never ending banter between the two of them. The bike scene with Newman and Katharine Ross is brilliant as it has nothing to do with the continuation of the story, but it's equally key in humanizing these characters even more for the audience's attraction. There would be no LaForres in "Mallrats" without the original here.

Undoubtedly one of the three best westerns ever made. The other two? "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly " and "Dances with Wolves" The best of the three? Depends what whas the last one of the three you saw...

I remember seeing this as a kid at a drive-in with my cousins and spending the next couple of weeks wanting to be a Cowboy. First of all this is not a Western, despite me as a kid wanting to be a cowboy, there is no western theme to this movie; no ranches, no Indians, no cow drives, no general store, or any saloon. It is about a couple of criminals who rob trains and banks during the time of the wild west, which involves a girl, and their failed plan to go straight and how they died. This movie could of been set on any continent at any time. This was a buddy movie with a hint of a love story. The fact that Newman and Redford played the title characters shows a great reflection in the casting director as their great chemistry on screen enhances the whole movie. This movie also provides some of the best and funniest one liners in all of Hollywood's history.
