This movie was nothing too fabulous which really disappointed me. I love Julie Andrews but this film lacked the things to make it great. Interesting love story though and an odd take on a pseudo-Mata Hari conspiracy.

Starring Julie Andrews, this preposterously plotted WWI musical was a huge artistic and commercial flop.

More people than I thought have seen this movie. I love it but I love old movies, Whistling in the dark is one of my fav pieces.

This movie seems confused as to what genre it is. At times it is a musical, then a drama, then a farcical comedy, then a war movie, then a spy movie, then a romance. It's really all over the place. I think it works best when it is a musical or romance. I love silly comedy, but the comedy is so silly, it just doesn't fit the rest of the movie. Julie Andrews is wonderful, of course, and the songs she sings are beautiful (which explains the Oscar nominations for music).

Colorful musical that is deficient in the script department, exactly why Julie is a spy is never really apparent and it really hurts the film. That being said the production design is beautiful as are some of Julie's costumes, it all seems overproduced and underdirected though. Rock has been better elsewhere although that also is probably the fault of the script. Really a three star film the extra star is for Julie and her voice which is exquisite and put to use on some lovely songs.
