"Existential horror"--yeah, that's the Kurosawa.2 methodology. For those who think Kairo is too simple, a tale of hypnotism, memory loss and philosophical exploration far beyond the boundaries of human morality (or, quite possibly, simple humanity). Whatever the hell it is with the Japanese, this has it in spades.

I prefer foreign films and this is one of my favorites. A psychological thriller with excellent cinematography and great acting. I ended up buying it, which was no easy task -Thank God of Au Cinema

Starts of kinda slow..but the tension gradually builds. Not gory or ultra violent like typical Japanese Horror movies, but the cold disconnected atmosphere is chilling. Not and ordinary thriller.

Slow, quietly unsettling psychological thriller from Kurosawa Kiyoshi, the maestro of the genre. Here, evil is uncommonly presented, not as a tangible outside force to be battled by the good, but rather as a virus spreading disease uncontrollably. Add to this some very eerie sounddesign, understated acting and beatifully framed scenes, and you'll be creeped out in no time. Masterful.

Interesting cinematic survey in hypnotic subject and bizarre fantasy plus passive murdering scenes seem good in Kurosawas's suspense film, probably his best movie yet. Its slow tone helps film to expand mystery of film and amazingly makes it entertaining. Hopefully Kurosawa did not accelerate the story and film's tone, just imagine if this movie had been made in Hollywood with Bruce Willis in the leading role!? Serial killer murdering his victims without touching them and leaving a single evidence is a great idea that could be enlarged in some pages of the screenplay, though slow tone of the movie plus mystery and suspense of the spiritual killer could add more spice on this horror and suspense film.
