A dark dark movie about an undercover cop looking for a serial killer, killing gay men on the S&M scene. The first thing that grabs you about this movie is the controversial background to the story - seedy New York S&M gay clubs, given that it was made in 1980, it wasn't given the best of receptions when first released.. This is not a feel good movie by any stretch. This movie will leave you feeling.. exposed... seedier than Joel Schumacher's "8MM" and far far better written. Pacino is just brilliant as the undercover cop, playing the character with an almost stalker-like quality.. adding to the big question of the movie.. Who is the killer? - Decide for yourself - Watch this movie.. but be warned, this may not be as controversial-a-subject in a 21st century world, however it is one of the darkest movies i have ever scene. But it's ambitious, original, brave and a breath of fresh air. When i finished watching this movie i was thinking about it all afternoon.. Far far more of an impact than any of today's new releases. Brilliant.

Its political lapses are many, but so characterizes the current rhetoric surrounding homosexuality. I value its moral confusion far more than I disapprove of its insensitivity.

Le style de Friedkin est fascinant. Et Al Pacino ne l est pas moins. Un film unique en son genre.

Cruising is a well made film, one of the distinct qualities I like about it, directed of course by a guy who's regarded one of the best. Although we pretty much walk with the homo killer in the last thirty minutes, if feeling that bit sorry for him, in spite of his murderous acts of knifing, some visually sick, the whole film, though with a lot of reprehensible matter to it, populated by the gay community, the film is just another exhilarating Friedkin movie experience. Pacino of course is top notch as the pumped and appetant undercover cop, that again has us realizing this great actor was a diamond in the rough find, partnered with a lot of other strong performances. The haunting music score in it's opening is another asset, as is it's shock after ending where another killer is out going rampant. Go Friedkin. 8/10
