Jack Goes Boating is a small film told extremely well. It is packed with emotional honesty and truth and is another reminder of the immense loss of Philip Seymour Hoffman. Hoffman shines, as usual, as Jack an awkward and shy man searching for love. He directed the film too and it is shot with great skill and care and this film of two couples traversing the minefield of relationships is very human and very real.

For some reason beyond my understanding, I am a fan of Philip Seymour Hoffman. Not sure why..but I ALWAYS enjoy his movies. Is it his style? his demeanor? his fantastic acting abilities? his great choice in movie subjects? I don't know, but he did it again. This was a very nice, touching, moving drama that I probably wouldn't have enjoyed as much had he not been in it.

As a fan of Philip Seymour Hoffman's impressive talent, I wanted to check 'Jack Goes Boating', and was surprised to read that he both directed and stars in the movie. This is one of those very small movies that rely more in character development and good acting that an elaborate plot. Nothing much happens in the meeting and eventual romance of two very shy people, and watching these characters can actually be painful at times, but I found the film very sweet and moving, and Hoffman doesn't disappoint.
