Mary Henry ends up the sole survivor of a fatal car accident through mysterious circumstances. Trying to put the incident behind her, she moves to Utah and takes a job as a church organist. But her fresh start is interrupted by visions of a fiendish man. As the visions begin to occur more frequently, Mary finds herself drawn to the deserted carnival on the outskirts of town. The strangely alluring carnival may hold the secret to her tragic past.

despite its age and the fairly low quality of some of the acting, i actually found this film really creepy. some fantastically dark imagery

A slow moving, atmospheric, low budget horror. The plain settings are draped with black and white, the ghosts are actors with simple white and black face paint and instead of jump scares the film relies on its score to carry its chilling mood. So if you're a fan of horror movies from the year 2000 and up you'll hate this because there's no CGI rollercoasters, over-conceptualized monsters, or jump scares. This film was made at a time when people who cared about the horror genre did it out of love and care.

Small-town, bleak America, anticipating David Lynch; car crash wreckage, an alluring misfit organist heroine (frenzied performance from the wonderfully named Candace Hilligoss) and delirious, hauntological scenes at a seaside funfair. A 'serious', middlebrow film like "The Pumpkin Eater" (1964) tries but fails quite to achieve the sense of social isolation evoked here in this eerie, uncanny gem of 'B' movie. It is all the better for being low-budget, using a wistful soundtrack, subtle effects and memorable make-up: the main spectre resembles Luke Haines! A superb film - truly an experience to savour.
