Sosa is a lawyer who haunts hospital waiting rooms hoping to represent the victims of traffic accidents in insurance claims. When he falls in love with ambulance medic Luján, he tries to leave this dark business but the shady law firm that he works for won't let him off that easily.

A stark, compelling crime drama, shot in lurid close-ups and leading inexorably toward a devastating end.

A film that slowly, slowly ekes out more in its story and admirably develops unexpectedly making it compelling for 2/3s of the running time. Unfortuantely, this development is more like a descent into unpleasantness. Characters become desperate, all hope fades and the director obviously indulges in making the viewer wince by constructing even more graphic scenes than the last. It made me feel cold at the end and I didn't like the hip style that the production brought to the drama. Out of place. Still, well-acted by Darin and Martina Gusman.

Only in the last 20 minutes or so does this thriller become the taut, vicious film some have labelled. Up to that point, it's a fairly involving drama, one however where the central romance is simply ludicrous.

Carancho (vulture). Every day in Buenos Aires 22 people die in traffic accidents so this means there is a lot of money to be made. A dodgy Insurance lawer decides to grow a conscience when he falls in love with a young doctor. This is when things begin to spiral out of control. The director is obviously not enamoured with these 'vultures' who pray on peoples missfortune. Beginning with a really original premise the movie builds to an uncompromising conclusion and the reliably strong presence that Richardo Darin brings to all his movies makes this one a keeper. Great stuff.

Marvellous, gripping filmic fare from Argentina. Car-crash-tastic, finely acted & a terrific slow-burn fuse to a nerve-shattering crescendo. Plus a couple of great lead performances from the equally lovely Ricardo DarÃn & Martina Gusman, whose chemistry was a match for Dujardin & BÃ©jo in The Artist. Me gusta mucho! Gracias, Pia :)
