This is a very interesting, unique byt flawed revenge film from horror director George A. Romero. Jason Flemyng is great in the lead and the themes that it explores are both intriguing and compelling. On the negative side unfortunately, Peter Stormare's performance was way too over-the-top and the ending is a bit of a disappointment. Still this is a good film that is worth a watch.

My instinct was to leave on my Romero rose-colored glasses with this one, but I just couldn't do it. It's not very good. I like the premise, but it wasn't executed all that well. The acting was on the bad side, the narrative was kind of 'meh', and ... yeah, well. I love Romero, but I can see why this didn't get theatre distribution. Perhaps my boy needs to stick to the blood and guts of horror and suspense, and give up with involved character development.

George A. Romero's "Bruiser" plays out like it could have been his installment for a "Masters of Horror" episode. It is one of his weaker films - there's nothing profound here despite a few spooky visuals. I'm not saying that horror always has to be profound, but that's what I've come to appreciate most about many of Romero's previous efforts in addition to his stylish direction. He manages to make a relevant statement within his horror that's unique and refreshing, and he makes it look cool in the process. "Bruiser," on the other hand, just feels uninspired and tedious.

The Misfits are in this!....other than that, this is a fairly boring and bland film. I will admit that the mask is fairly creepy though.
