A good movie but one the boys won't be into.

Any one who believes that feminist ideals are no longer relevant should see this film. Subjugation of women has not ended in the UK or anywhere else for that matter and this film demonstrates that beautifully. Longing, illicit love, ideals, dreams... what a film!

For once, the movie version is different from the book in a way that makes it LESS hokey. Okay, they skipped a lot of good stuff, but it made the story more real. Very well done.

I started this movie not sure what to expect, having not read the book, and I finished by calling it my favourite movie of 2008. The soundtrack is very special, the characters are portrayed beautifully and the visual imagery is ethereal. With a simple yet powerful story, this is a sensual, moving and potentially affecting movie.
