Brick Lane is so lovely that even a simple shot of empty hangers in a closet shimmers.

A beautiful and mesmerizing film. The cinematography is outstanding and I really liked the editing style as well. It just flowed so effortless and smoothly. The film's central character Nazneen takes an interesting journey through the course of the this film. I really like how she discovers herself and her courage and doesn't find the need to depend on a man to support her. What could have easily turned in a soap opera love story stays fairly grounded. I was quite happy with her decision and how her character arc ended. Another interesting character arc is her husband's who could have easily been made the bad guy of the movie. But instead the writer ops and goes and different route taking him on his own journey which changes him and for the better.

Lovely film, really well acted. Very subtly poignant - about love and what love is, duty, disappointment with life and self, and mistreatment of each other. The book is worth reading too.

THIS MOVIE WAS ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!!! this movie is sort of like watchin a Bangladeshi Color Purple. obviously there are big twists and turns in comparison however. A young woman is given away to marriage (as is the custom) and can only correspond to her sister via letters, and in the meantime, has to learn more than to live in a world not her own; she has to make it her own. THIS IS A MUST SEE MOVIE!!!
