I tried, but I really cannot see the appeal in this. I loved Rachel Sennot in it — she's so natural!— but everyone and everything else is lame. The thriller part of it is nowhere to be found, and the z-gen allegory is dull and superficial.

It wants to be a slasher, but it isn’t reckless enough. It wants to be funny, but it only has two jokes, and it repeats them ad nauseum. It wants to be tense, but it takes advantage of almost none of the tension that this scenario and its McMansion setting have to offer.

It’s complicated. This movie seems written for an age group that is possibly not going to step foot in a theater to give it a chance. If tiktok was a human who could write a script, this is what I guess I’d create. Although clever at times, it never seems to grip you into feeling any sort understanding of what it is really about. It’s reminiscent of Clue, but in a non “this will be a cult favorite in time” way. If it has something to say I’d be nice if it just said it instead of making us laugh at clever sentences that take us nowhere.
