This movie is very bad from the beginning to the end. This is almost too horrible to even comment on or review. I knew going into this movie that it would be a big disappointment, from many reasons: 1. There is no exactly story why Johnny lead his friends to the rowboat? - for revenge or "just like that" to celebrate even he knows that there is big danger 2. The giant fish is like a toy 3. The acting is too bad, unprofessional and amateur 4. The story is unremarkable and the characters, as written, are awful 5. And finally do yourself a favor - DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME

A fun horror movie. It doesn't rely on CGI monsters and has a real "Lord of the Flies" vibe. Plus the actors make you believe lines that could've fallen flat.

Although Fessenden does fine work shooting his equivalent of Lifeboat, the movie’s surface is often rough. Yet the title doesn’t just refer to what lurks in the lake’s still water. It’s a guide to where Beneath’s substance lies, the acid heart inside its plastic chest.

While I appreciated the use of practical effects, and though there is some good tension once the kids are out on the water, I found the cast so incredibly unlikable. Almost to an extent where I believe maybe that was the point. However, I don't really want to watch a killer fish movie with a bunch of kids I would throw in the water myself. Johnny is the only sympathetic character but even he is hard to follow, being a complete imbecile. Camp movies like this need interesting or at least likable, shallow characters (see Piranha 3D), otherwise it's just waiting to throw bodies to the fish. The movie itself is not horrible; just really didn't want to take the ride with these six kids.
