Beautiful Kate (2009)

Ned Kendall is asked to return to the remote and isolated family home by his sister, to say goodbye to his father who is dying. Ned also brings his young aspiring actress fiancee who struggles with the isolation. When home he starts having memories of his childhood many involving his beautiful twin sister and his older brother. These memories awaken long-buried secrets from the family's past.

Rachel Ward's directorial debut is well acted and handsomely shot by Andrew Commis, but it goes nowhere.

Why do Australian films have to be dark and depressing to be good? A great bit of directing and acting, enough to make it a very uncomfortable viewing. It would almost make you think it's the Australian Outback's fault that we produce twisted individuals in remote locations.

This is an extraordinary film not only for its subject matter, and its approach, but for the extraordinary qualities it demonstrates in every field. The cast are superb, the cinematography magical, the absence of morality is refreshing.

so australian. Its brilliant to see the number of fabulous australian movies that are coming out. The theme is quite confronting, but the way that characters are developed and portrayed allows the viewer a chance to gain some kind of comprehension into their often disturbing behaviour. Gorgeous scenery and cinematography. A very rough and true to life portrayal of a family learning to accept the fate of a dying father and trying to overcome haunting memories of family members lost. Simply stunning
