Beautiful Kate (2009)

Ned Kendall is asked to return to the remote and isolated family home by his sister, to say goodbye to his father who is dying. Ned also brings his young aspiring actress fiancee who struggles with the isolation. When home he starts having memories of his childhood many involving his beautiful twin sister and his older brother. These memories awaken long-buried secrets from the family's past.

Why do Australian films have to be dark and depressing to be good? A great bit of directing and acting, enough to make it a very uncomfortable viewing. It would almost make you think it's the Australian Outback's fault that we produce twisted individuals in remote locations.

People may hear of the subject matter of this movie and use it as an excuse to not give it a fair chance. But I guarantee, if you go into this movie with an open mind, it will captivate and thrill you more so than you could have expected.

Centered on a strong family secret, this movie is touching some very tough topics, incest first but also and foremost the difficulty of the relationship between a father and his son. It's well shot, well acted and although it is a small intimate drama, it reaches far beyond it's remote setting. Definitely a film to be seen.
