Director Rachel Ward creates an beautiful, tender and delicate story, exploring a damaged family and complex social taboos - with Ben Mendelsohn giving the best performance of his career.

Rachel Ward's directorial debut is well acted and handsomely shot by Andrew Commis, but it goes nowhere.

Flinders Ranges, muted colours, dusty houses, flies and heat, family tensions, stunning cinematography and lots of Ben Mendelsohn. I love Australian movies.

This film has so many beautiful layers within it, I left the cinema wanting to watch it again just to have the opportunity to better understand all the characters. Although each of them is hopelessly flawed, there wasn't one who I didn't feel I could sympathise with. You can't help help but want to understand how each character came to be who they were. This film carefully intertwines freedom and imprisonment and shows us how one can lead you to the other and how at the same time they can be the same thing.
