Nicely done melodrama with hints of comedy. The gender politics are way dated, but the performances are swell.

A pretty good movie for the time. It's dated, but it's a good depression era love story.

Bad Girl is a pretty good romantic drama which features a jarring shift in tone half-way into the story and I did personally prefer that highly romantic, wonderful first half, but still the dramatic second half is thematically brave for its time and also interesting in its slice-of-life approach. Frank Borzage directed the film so well whereas Sally Eilers and James Dunn are both terrific.

Interesting movie, though nothing to BLOIWN AWAY BY. This movie won best durector and best adapted screenplay at thw 1931 Oscars, which is very hard to believe judging by what we see here. It's a very simple story, Guy meets girl, get married quickly, have a kid, wonder if they can afford it, etc. but everything seems just a wee bit too sugarcoated and pat that the whole thing seems hardly believable. The only thing worth watching for is the amazing slice of early 30's New York, were all the guys using "see" after every sentence and treating women like dirt? Some clever camerawork in the beginning, but that's it;.
