"Attack!" is a really interesting anomaly of a war film from 1956. It's cynical tone is quite noir influenced, as is its low budget confines and stark lighting. Palance and Albert are both effective as two men pushed to insanity for opposing reasons. It's not the last word in war films, but it's a worthy watch that adds to the conversation.

This movie has some of the finest performances you'll ever see from Jack Palance, Eddie Albert and others. Palance and Albert are riveting as the gritty Lieutenant and the cowardly Captain respectively, who find themselves at war with each other as well as the Germans. You won't find modern day bl...read moreood 'n' guts carnage in the movie, but you will find exceptional performances and a reasonably engaging story with some good fifties-style toned down war action on a budget. See it for the acting and directing, it's a great movie on those strengths alone.

6.5/10. Better than average war film, mainly due to Robert Aldrich's stylish direction. Well acted by most, overacted by some, particularly Eddie Albert. Good score, well photographed. I thought the sets looked a little phony though.
