The two-way relationship between Jia and Zhao is the main attraction... Ash Is Purest White is about what it takes to keep love from burning out but its excellence, as well as its existence, is evidence of a genuinely incandescent artistic partnership.

Zhao is magnificent throughout. With her smile she can project warmth or daggers, and she seems able to grow younger or older at will.

Maybe you can't figure out a whole and clear story after watching, but you will be deeply touched by the disconnected plots, for there is a gigantic background behind, and that is just what director Jia want to convey. A great film, and without a shadow of doubt, this movie will be remembered by Chinese movie history.
