All her life, Englishwoman Gladys Aylward knew that China was where she belonged. Unqualified to be sent as a missionary, Gladys works as a domestic to earn to send herself to a poor, remote village. There, she eventually lives a full and happy life: running the inn, acting as 'foot inspector', advising the local Mandarin, and even winning the heart of mixed-race Captain Lin Nan. Gladys discovers her real destiny when the country is invaded by Japan and the Chinese children need her to save their lives.

A wonderful movie about one woman's faith and the power of God. A great, classic film. I definitely recommend this movie. :D

Finely wrought drama of a truly brave selfless woman. Not a lot of Hollywood artifice just a simple story of someone who felt a calling and pursued it with single minded determination to find it made her life one of meaning and importance. Ingrid Bergman is perfectly cast here and give a beautiful performance supported by a fine Curt Jurgens and especially the touching and dignified Robert Donat in his last film. A winner.

A good movie, one of those ones you watched as a kid and it stucks in your memory ever since
