...Anita Hill's life has not been defined by her experience with the Senate Judiciary Panel, and Anita does not dwell unduly on that episode in her life, but instead presents a much fuller picture of her life and work.

What an interesting person with a tragic and interesting life, but what a boring way to take us on the journey. Apart from the charismatic and fascinating story of Anita Hill's life, there's not much in Anita: Speaking Truth to Power that's very fascinating. It plays like a made-for-History Channel documentary that relies too heavily on the story to carry the weight of the film. The delivery of the facts in the case are pretty straight forward, so about halfway into the film you're pretty done with the story. There's not enough investigation into the person of Anita Hill, so I didn't care as much as I should.

I wish I'd gotten a better sense of what Anita went through personally during the post-trial hype...but otherwise this was a perfectly serviceable look at a woman that's truly made a difference in the lives of other women.

Given what we know about Hill -- her gentle, mild-mannered nature; her rural upbringing; and her quiet belief in doing what's right -- perhaps this is the truest possible portrait.
