(Christian) Slater and (Tara) Reid share quite possibly the most awkward love scene ever recorded on film.

I don't know why, but I've always liked Christian Slater. Maybe it is the dry delivery or the near permanent smirk. Anyway, it is his charisma that makes this worth a look, but only just barely. Any movie that starts off with about two minutes of narration just to bring you up to speed is bound to have problems with telling a story. A good amount of action, decent special effects, but not enough explanation of what is going on. Tara Reid is a nice looking bonus. I was not surprised to read that this is based on a video game I'd never heard of. You wrote this on 5/20/09.

Christian Slater and Stephen Dorff were great in this movie. Tara Reid was OK.

Your typical videogame movie, fun little film with good monsters. Guns an gore are what you'll find here. If you want an action movie with monsters, you can't do worse than this.

Seriously, I've seen way worse movies who got a lot better ratings. I was actually less bored by Alone in the Dark that I've been when watching the latest Indiana Jones. So yes, acting is not great, he is almost never 'Alone', the back story of Carnby is no more strange or incoherent than in the games (Don't forget that NONE of the games has been written by the same team, and we are going from the haunted manor in the 1920's to the ghost western city, to central park in 2008). So yeah, not a great movie, but definitely not a IMDB bottom list or a one star 'Uwe Sucks'.
