The professor takes him to Paris, where he eventually comes under the wing and influence of novelist George Sand and rises to prominence in the music world, to the exclusion of his old friends and patriotic feelings towards Poland.

People have to appreciate the movie from a pure entertaining angle. Facts about Chopin are somewhat inaccurate - anything from Chopin's personality to historical backgrounds are off - but it is the music and the patriotic spirit make the file memorable. :)

"A Song to Remember" is supposed to be the life of Chopin but in fact, very little in it is historically accurate. It's still a beautiful, emotional, and sumptuous movie, filled with the heavenly music of Chopin.

Mostly dull. Supposedly the history of Frederic Chopin, but not very accurate at all. Much of the movie is pure fiction, in the movie merely for dramatic effect. Performances are mostly poor. Paul Muni is irritating as the fictional character Professor Elsner, and unfortunately gets a large amount of screentime. Cornel Wilde is so-so as Chopin. The only redeeming qualities are the music and Merle Oberon. Oberon is convincing as George Sand, and stunningly beautiful too.

A nice biography movie about Chopin. I enjoyed it, the actors are good and the story is interesting (weather or not it's accurate, I don't know).

Cornel Wilde turns in a surprisingly good performance with Merle Oberon especially attractive. Glorious production rich in color and design. Paul Muni's performance is endearing. A great deal to enjoy.
