Beautifully shot, beautiful score, excellent acting... you feel immersed in this wonderfully tragic story. I'm waiting to see the next thing by fashion designer Tom Ford.

Colin Firth gives one of my favorite performances of the last couple of years. He internalizes pain, sadness and even happiness in an outstanding way. Firth plays George, a man who is set on today being the last day of his life. Yet he finds little moments of meaning and beauty that begin to overshadow his goal of ending his life. For me the soul or angel on George's shoulder is played by director Tom Ford. Ford does brilliant work behind the camera in a stunning directorial debut. His love for the character beams through, the slow mo, extreme closeups, music ques, color changes seem like ways for him to cry out for the character. Matthew Goode and Julianne Moore are magnificent in supporting roles. The themes of alienation, repression and the inability to enjoy the moment are beautifully executed.

This was a real surprise. The director (Tom Ford) is a fashion designer, not a movie director. It is a very simple story about a guy missing his ex boyfriend. Colin Firth is always good to see ( my favorite performance of his is Valmont). Photographed very nicely by Eduard Grau (The Gift), who has not done anything else of this caliber. The visuals look like a series of perfume ads, and as such should not feel so personal and touching as it does. If you never had your heart broke and could still feel the passion burning for the lost love, this movie will take you back to that moment and put you there and make you remember that missing your love is the next best thing to having them, maybe because when you had the love there was so much pain, the pain of if nothing else, that it was not meant to last.

This absolutely blew me away! It is visually stunning and Colin Firth really puts in a fantastic performance. Correction, the entire cast does. One of the most touching and beautiful moments in the film is when Matthew and Colin are sitting on a couch with their dogs reading. You feel the closeness and the love they have for each other. I highly highly recommend watching this. Just a bit of interesting trivia. When Colin walk's into the college he teaches at, the two men sitting on either end of the couch are the partners of Tom Ford and Christopher Isherwood, who of course is the author of 'A Single Man'
