Quite an interesting film about the problems (and a bit of the beauties) of the British colonial project in India. On the plus side, the west is invited to experience the rich beauty of this mysterious nation, communicated through the women's interest in the culture and the beautiful photography. However, the narrative makes the problems clear, primarily the seemingly unending racism by the Brits and the suspicion by many Indians. Acting is solid, esp. Peggy Ashcroft.

Probable one of the last epic movies as it was made in the 80's. Directed by someone with the credentials of Lawrence of Arabia, there's isnt much to say after that. David Lean knew how to make great movies. Compelling and Masterfully crafted. It was almost three hours that felt like half of that.

With background of British Raj upon India in 1920s, we learned some facts about colonial arrogance and inequality and how these oppressed people were trying to fight back. Although the author, Forester, might inadvertently create a Caucasian hero, Mr. Fielding, but deep inside, he still honestly captured the spirit and muddle of that era.
