A beautiful movie that reflects colonial mindset to queasy perfection. Somethings just never left "me": Mrs. Moore wandering the ruins @ night, Adela being attacked by monkeys in some ruins, the caves and the echoing shouts for "Mrs. Moore"; a very strange looking Alec Guinness and a very earnest Victor Banerjee...Something about this movie makes me love it and hate it at the same time.

Opulent epic that could only be directed by David Lean (Oscar-nominated for directing and co-writing the script). "A Passage to India" is meticulous and methodically paced with the performers sustaining the interest of the audience. Alec Guinness makes a cameo appearance and James Fox just about steals the show from the leading ladies. Not as good as Lean's masterpieces ("The Bridge on the River Kwai", "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Dr. Zhivago"), but still a more than adequate addition to the cinema. 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Le dernier film de David Lean n'est pas en cinÃ©mascope, il est du coup moins Ã©pique, mais aussi plus intimiste. Un portrait de l'Inde et du colonialisme anglais au travers d'un procÃ¨s raciste. Lean y garde une grande capacitÃ© d'Ã©vocation romantico-politique. A voir.

A perfectly done adaptation of Forsters' novel, plenty of jungian and freudian metaphors, and subtle messages precise and delightfully displayed with no place left for vulgarity or misconception. A very enojoyable version of this incredible story.

An excellent movie, but I haven't been able to understand why Guinness was chosen to play an Indian character.
