A Dog Year (2009)

Jon Katz is close to burnout. He's a writer with writer's block; his wife has left for her sister's because he's emotionally distant; he rarely answers his phone. A kennel sends him a border collie that's undisciplined because of abuse. Despite a series of mishaps, Jon decides to keep trying with the dog, and he rents a dilapidated farm house to give the dog room to run. A local handyman refers Jon to a woman who might be able to help him train the dog. Reluctantly, Jon gives her a try. Is the dog the problem, or the owner?

I was hoping for a nice flick about a border collie. This does not feel like a complete movie - there are fragments of stories that never flow properly. I wonder if Jeff Bridges ever owned a dog, because he seems real uncomfortable interacting with one in this movie.

A very appealing idea that failed to deliver... Although I would gladly watch it again (being a dog lover), I think it's pretty mediocre as a movie. The script is weak and the characters / situations underdeveloped. The stars go only for Bridges and the dog.

Really connected to this story. Dog lovers' must see.

Nice, mellow drama about a writer intentionally distracted from his work by the challenge of taking in an abused dog. Based on a book inspired by a true story, this film is intriguing but comes to a resolution far too swiftly.

Okay so he gets a dog that was abused and apparently despite the fact that he had two labs he knows nothing about dogs...or at least nothing about collies. It was cute, funny and I thought the collie was cute, he had the same nose as my Aussie did. Everybody learned something at the end of the movie but this movie just isn't for everyone.
